Patti Smith
Banga

On what is certainly her best album in many, many years Smith reminds her listeners that—along with Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen—she is one of the few artists working in the popular music arena who has a literary sensibility that draws from a well of culture that goes far beyond rock’s tired paradigms.

What is perhaps most staggering about these new songs is the absolute commitment with which Smith sings them. Sometimes she sounds as vulnerable and pensive as the Harvest-era Neil Young (there’s a pretty if somewhat inconsequential version of “After the Gold Rush” included here); on other tracks she pumps like a wobbly kneed Mick Jagger, and those who love the more unhinged aspects of Smith’s work will thrill to the half-spoken, half-wailed, spit-through-teeth pleading distortion of “Constantine’s Dream,” the 10-minute epic that forms the backbone of Banga. It is a masterful piece of work that is as rich, compelling, deep and encompassing as anything she’s ever recorded. – Douglas Heselgrave, Paste Magazine

John Mayer
Born and Raised

Born and Raised is the fifth studio album by American musician John Mayer that was released on May 22, 2012. On this album, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist works with Grammy Award-winning co-producer Don Was and a small, tight ensemble that features Chuck Leavell (the Rolling Stones, the Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton) on keyboards, while Chris Botti, Sara Watkins, Jim Keltner and Greg Leisz make guest appearances.

It's one of Mayer's most diverse and exploratory albums yet, trying on a variety of different styles to accompany a set of particularly reflective and soul-searching tunes, and marks yet another change in Mayer's musical style, incorporating musical elements of folk and Americana that take influences from Bob Dylan, Neil Young, David Crosby and Graham Nash.

Metric
Synthetica

The future might sound like this. That is, if the future is dystopian punk rock — especially if tomorrow holds the peculiar strain of ‘Blade Runner’ beatdowns that Metric purvey so expertly. They’re at their highest point yet in fifth studio album Synthetica, a multi-genre meld of post punk, electro pop, and points in between.

Guitarist and producer Jimmy Shaw favors guitar and keyboard hooks that snap into tight, rhythmic grids and tones that add vibrant color while staying within the proverbial lines -- nerdy, smart and sexy, which would also be a good description of frontwoman Emily Haines, whose delivery can switch from frosty detachment to purring sex kitten. On Synthetica, Metric's music is as precise as their name would imply.

Rolling Stones Reissue
Some Girls

Some Girls is the 14th British and 16th American studio album by The Rolling Stones, released in 1978 on Rolling Stones Records. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200, and remains the band's best-selling album with 6 million plus copies sold. The album was re-issued on 21st, November 2011 in a 2 CD Deluxe edition, including 12 previously unreleased songs from that era.

Originally recorded in Paris and New York’s, Electric Lady Studios (1978), Keith Richards returned to Electric Lady’s Studio A with producer Don Was in September of 2011 to overdub guitar parts for the reissue release.
